All Saints Day

Today is All Saints Day. The United Methodist Book of Worship explains All Saints as…

All Saints (November 1 or the first Sunday in November) is a day of remembrance for the saints, with the New Testament meaning of all Christian people of every time and place. We celebrate the communion of saints as we remember the dead, both of the Church universal and of our local congregations. For this reason, the names of persons in the congregation who have died during the past year may be solemnly read as a Response to the Word.  ~from The United Methodist Book of Worship (413)

This year I remember my mother. Pamela Jeanne Bushyhead

Who graduated to Church eternal this past March. Preaching at her funeral has been the hardest but yet most life giving thing I have done. You can listen to the sermon

I miss her so much. She was a Saint, and she would have to be to put up with my father and us five kids. Today I pause not just to remember her but all the other Saints that have passed in the last year. So I pray this prayer that is in the Book of Worship today.

We bless your holy name, O God, for all your servants who, having finished their course, now rest from their labors. Give us grace to follow the example of their steadfastness and faithfulness, to your honor and glory; through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. (ENGLAND, 20TH CENT., ALT.)

I am Convinced….

Romans 8:37-39 (Common English Bible)

37 But in all these things we win a sweeping victory through the one who loved us. 38 I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers 39 or height or depth, or any other thing that is created.

I have been thinking about fear all week, our fears that get in the way of truly being in conversation and relationship with God and i have come to this conclusion.

What do i need to fear? I am convinced that nothing can separate me from God’s love. So i know i will be ok, even if things are how i want them. I know that God’s got my back. God loves me, why not let him know what keeps me from being closer to God. I know God will understand. You know that has been the biggest release of this week, that i know that God loves me for me. God knows I am giving it my best. So i continue on striving to grow closer to God knocking down walls (with God’s help) that would keep me from a closer relationship, and you know what you can do the same. Know that God loves you and wants you to be close to him. Don’t let fear get in the way.  I am convinced that we can be closer to God and one another as long as we don’t let fear get in the way.
