I am Convinced….

Romans 8:37-39 (Common English Bible)

37 But in all these things we win a sweeping victory through the one who loved us. 38 I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers 39 or height or depth, or any other thing that is created.

I have been thinking about fear all week, our fears that get in the way of truly being in conversation and relationship with God and i have come to this conclusion.

What do i need to fear? I am convinced that nothing can separate me from God’s love. So i know i will be ok, even if things are how i want them. I know that God’s got my back. God loves me, why not let him know what keeps me from being closer to God. I know God will understand. You know that has been the biggest release of this week, that i know that God loves me for me. God knows I am giving it my best. So i continue on striving to grow closer to God knocking down walls (with God’s help) that would keep me from a closer relationship, and you know what you can do the same. Know that God loves you and wants you to be close to him. Don’t let fear get in the way.  I am convinced that we can be closer to God and one another as long as we don’t let fear get in the way.

Peace

MF

Romans: Day 7 (or so)

1 Brothers and sisters, I’m talking to you as people who know the Law. Don’t you know that the Law has power over someone only as long as he or she lives? (Romans 7:1-2 CEB)

Restored

Above are the front restored doors at Calumet United Methodist Church. When I first got to the Church in 2009, these doors were in dire need of either being replaced or being restored.  Our trusties worked on getting this done, we replaced are few other doors that were just barely hanging on and added paint to some that paint was all that they needed. Then we got to these main doors. I wish i had a before picture for you to show you bad they were. We had a few people in the Church step up and say that they could attempt to save the doors, and after a few weeks of work the crew completed their task last Saturday. They look great. I don’t think this picture does it justice to how good these doors look. Read more »

Evangelism: Oh No! Not that Word.

I remember when the word evangelism used to scare the hell out me. I say that because the people that used to really try to evangelize to me used to say I am going to hell if I did not see the journey of faith as they did. Now that I am a Christian and have been on the journey with Jesus for almost 11 years. I have found myself struggling with the term and the practice of evangelism. I have found two books that have helped me come to terms with the word evangelism and the practice of doing solid evangelism.

More Ready Than You Realize: Evangelism As Dance In the Postmodern Matrix by Brian D. McLaren.

Transforming Evangelism: The Wesleyan Way of Sharing Faith. Henry H. Knight and F. Douglas Powe, Jr.

If you have time and get the chance, I would encourage you to read them. They are good quick reads.
